Oh hey, we’re just burning through December, aren’t we? Well if the 2024 release calendar is lookin’ rather slim to you, might I interest you in some new additions to Sony’s PlayStation Plus service? This month includes quite a few tempting offers.

Every month, PlayStation Plus subscribers at the Premium and Extra level are treated to some fresh games to download. This month’s offers kick off on December 19 (next week, at the time of writing) and include the legendary Grand Theft Auto V and a few other games that you might’ve been keeping an eye on.

Wait, which PS Plus tier should I have?

Sony divides its subscription service up into three tiers. Here’s what they get you:

PlayStation Plus Essential: Highlights include monthly games, grants you access to online multiplayer, discounts, and cloud storage. This one runs you $10 per month, or $80 per year.

PlayStation Plus Extra: Everything from Essential, along with access to on-demand downloads from the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog (which you’ll need for the game’s mentioned here). It also includes games from the Ubisoft Classics library. This one costs $15 a month, or $135 for the year.

PlayStation Plus Premium: The top option among Sony’s offerings, this one nets you everything from Essential and Extra as well as exclusive game trials, cloud streaming, and old school PlayStation titles via the Classics Catalog. This one costs $18/month ($160 for the year).

PlayStation Plus’ December update includes some awesome stuff

You can check out the official blog for the full rundown, but these are a few games that caught our eye:

  • Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin
  • Salt & Sacrifice
  • Moonscars
  • Mega Man 11 (note: Mega Man Legacy Collection and its sequel are also available in the Classics Catalog for Premium subscribers starting on December 19.)
  • Prodeus
  • Shadowrun Returns
  • Shadowrun Dragonfall
  • Shadowrun Hong Kong

Of these, I’d highly recommend checking out the Doom-inspired neo-retro shooter Prodeus, as it features some vividly visceral shooting action.

Bounding Box Software Inc. / PlayStation

Also, if you’ve recently wrapped Baldur’s Gate 3 and are in the mood for another isometric RPG based on a tabletop role-playing game, the Shadowrun Returns series might be worth your time.

Harebrained Schemes / PlayStation

All in all, this is a pretty healthy dose of gaming for your PlayStation Plus subscription, especially if that GTA 6 trailer has you hankering for a little criminal activity.
