When Avatar first released in 2009, it took the world by storm. Though it may not have had the most original story, the first Avatar is still widely regarded as one of the most impressive movies ever made, with its visual effects and motion-capture technology breaking new ground at the time and still holding up surprisingly well 14 years later. And while the Avatar franchise went dormant for a little while in the 2010s, fans never forgot about it, as shown by a triumphant return with last year’s Avatar: The Way of Water that has seemingly brought the series back into the spotlight once more. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is only going to help keep it there.
Released just a week ago, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora may not be the most critically-acclaimed game of 2023, but it’s certainly a game worth experiencing for Avatar fans, with it being the first time players can truly immerse themselves in the world of Pandora first-hand. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora sees players take control of a young Na’vi warrior who, after being kidnapped at a young age by the RDA, has to relearn the ways of their people and reconnect with the world of Pandora. Along the way, players will meet plenty of new characters and Na’vi clans, some of which could be fitted seamlessly into future Avatar movies.

Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora Leaves Plenty of Room for Movie Tie-Ins
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’s Clans Could Appear in Future Movies
Long before its release, it was confirmed that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora would be part of the official Avatar canon. This means that everything that occurs during Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, from its explosive main story to its more relaxing fetch-quest side missions, is completely canon to the wider Avatar universe. Therefore, it could be used at any time in any future Avatar project, whether it’s the upcoming James Cameron-helmed sequels or any other projects that might be in development right now.
When it comes to predicting what Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora content could be used in future Avatar projects, the game’s new clans seem like the most probable choice. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora introduces four new Na’vi clans to the canon. The first of these is the Aranahe, a tribe of peaceful silk-weavers that reside inside a hometree of their own. The second is the Zeswa, a tribe of hunter-gatherers that wander the Western Frontier of Pandora, and the final clan is the Kame’tire, a reclusive group of healers that hide from the RDA and the rest of Na’vi society in the Clouded Forest. It seems pretty likely that a future Avatar movie will show, or at least mention these new Na’vi clans at some point.
But there’s one final Na’vi clan that Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora introduces, and it might be the one most likely to pop up again in James Cameron’s movies. The Sarentu clan was formed 3000 years ago by the very first Toruk Makto, Entu, who originally belonged to the Omatikaya clan. A tribe of peaceful traveling storytellers, the Sarentu were ambushed and killed by the RDA, and now Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora‘s player-character and their friends are thought to be the last surviving members. With Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’s ending leaving things pretty open, it would make sense for the Sarentu to play a larger role in the Avatar universe’s future.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora’s Setting Could Be Seen in Future Movies
While much of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora‘s setting looks fairly similar to most of the locales shown in the first two Avatar movies, it does technically take place in a different region of the planet called the Western Frontier. It might be interesting to see Jake Sully and the rest of the Na’vi gang pass through the Western Frontier at some point during their future adventures, potentially seeing the ruins of the RDA facilities that the player destroyed during the course of the game.
