Amazon and Games Workshop have solidified their collaboration to bring the Warhammer 40,000 universe to life on both the big and small screens. The announcement comes after a year-long negotiation process, initiated with an agreement in principle and now culminating with a comprehensive deal, publicly disclosed by Games Workshop on Monday.
In December 2022, Games Workshop announced its collaboration with Amazon Studios, with actor Henry Cavill as the driving force behind adapting the sci-fi miniature wargame into films and TV series. Cavill, a devoted Warhammer 40K enthusiast and outspoken fan, will contribute as an executive producer and potentially appear in upcoming projects. An “elite band” of screenwriters is coming together to create the shows and movies.
However, fans eager to see Warhammer on Prime Video will need to remain patient, as Games Workshop writes in its announcement that “Games Workshop and Amazon will work together for a period of 12 months to agree [on] creative guidelines for the films and television series to be developed by Amazon. The agreement will only proceed once the creative guidelines are mutually agreed between Games Workshop and Amazon. A further announcement will be made in due course.”
In another announcement directly to its community, Games Workshop further emphasizes that “TV and film production is a mammoth undertaking. It’s not unusual for projects to take two to three years from this point before something arrives on screen. Still, things are now properly rolling, and you can bet we’ll bring you all the latest updates and cool snippets as soon as we’re able.”
